If Your Dental Veneers Break, We Need to Replace Them Immediately

If Your Dental Veneers Break, We Need to Replace Them ImmediatelyIf you have a veneer, you know that the thin porcelain giving you a perfect smile is incredibly durable given that it is so thin. Further, if you have a broken veneer, you've discovered exactly how much force it takes to break or crack your veneer and exactly what angle to trigger the crack. If you have broken your veneer, the first thing you need to do is remove the pieces from your mouth if they come out easily. If they remain stable, they will not be swallowed, but you don't want to be swallowing pieces of sharp porcelain if you can help it. Next, you need to call your dentist and get the next available appointment, if not something sooner.

Your Options for Solutions

There are a few options available to you since your veneers have broken. If they have come off entirely as one piece, you may be able to have them rebounded to your teeth. This should be a very quick and easy process since the bonding agent would just need to be reapplied and cured. Another option, if you've damaged the veneers directly, is having them repaired. Depending on the type of damage, there are further options, but the most common is buffing to remove light damage or dental bonding to repair slightly heavier damage. Worse comes to worse, and you completely crack your veneer in half, and you'll need a replacement. It is not possible to correctly dental bond the pieces back together.
