Dental Implants In Boise & Meridian, ID
Tooth loss affects every aspect of your life. Basic functions like eating and speaking become much more difficult. Your smile is affected, which can impact your confidence. Tooth loss also leads to bone loss in your jaw, which can affect the shape of your jawbone and the alignment of your healthy teeth. Replacing your missing teeth is essential for restoring the functions of your missing teeth, your smile, and your quality of life. At Treasure Valley Oral & Facial Surgery, we can replace missing teeth with dental implants.
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are a modern solution for tooth loss, providing you with an alternative to bridges and dentures. This treatment involves the surgical placement of small titanium posts into your jawbone. These posts are then used to provide support for your replacement teeth. As you heal from surgery, your bone gradually fuses to the posts. Called osseointegration, this process is completely natural and turns the posts into strong, stable replacement roots that hold your new teeth securely in place.

Types of Dental Implants
Dental implants can be used in many different situations. There are many types of dental implants that can meet many different needs.
Placing Dental Implants
Placing dental implants requires surgery. Sedation is typically provided so that you can relax and remain comfortable during treatment. We begin by making small incisions in your gums. Next, holes are drilled into your jawbone according to your treatment plan. The implant posts are placed directly inside. Your gums are sutured closed around the posts, leaving a small amount exposed above the gums. Temporary teeth are affixed into place.
Recovery after surgery can take several weeks to several months to complete. During this time, several follow ups allow us to monitor the fusion of your jawbone and make sure there are no issues. Once you have fully healed, your final dental restorations are designed, created, and secured into place.
What if My Jawbone is Too Weak?
The success of dental implants relies on the condition of your jawbone. However, after tooth loss, your jawbone begins to lose bone mass. If you have lost too much bone mass, your jawbone may not be able to fuse properly. This does not mean you cannot get dental implants. In many cases, a bone graft may be recommended to restore missing bone mass. If you are missing an entire arch of teeth and you do not have enough bone mass in your jaw, you may also be a candidate for an alternative treatment known as All on 4.
